There are many interesting ways to decorate your bike, but perhaps MonkeyLectric came up with the best way to stand out on the road. Monkey Light Pro is a set of LED stripes that are attached to a bicycle wheel and can be programmed to create colorful animations.
This is no longer the first development of a system of this kind from the company MonkeyLectric, but not one model was as complex as this one. Over the past two years, the company has been developing prototypes for new systems for special projects and events. During this time, developers have improved their production processes, to launch more complex systems.
Monkey Light Pro has four panels with a total of 256 full-color LEDs that fit together inside the spokes and display bright images throughout the wheel when it is in motion. Cyclists can download a variety of graphics or send a short animation using Bluetooth, when the bike reaches 10 to 40 mph (15 to 65 km / h), the device starts working. The installation also includes two axial accelerometers and four magnetic sensors to track wheel speed rotation, thereby making the images stable when accelerating, decelerating and even driving in the opposite direction. It is designed to fit any bicycle wheel, the kit includes an anti-theft belt from of stainless steel. The system is built of durable urethane to protect it from water, vibration and daily use. Built-in lithium battery, recharged with USB, is designed for 3 - 8 hours of operation at full brightness and up to 48 hours at a lower level.
Using special software, users can create their own playlists to use their own files or a set of pre-loaded animations. The software and the API are also freely available to developers who are interested in experimenting with the lighting system. Unfortunately, there is no application to manage the system using a smartphone, but the developers hope to provide funding to make this possible in the future.
Currently, the project can be invested in Kickstarter, one of the first to get a new development, according to preliminary data Monkey Light Pro will go on sale in December this year.
