Living room and bedroom in one room became a fashionable design move for small apartments and houses. Properly dividing one standard room into two completely different zones, you can get a rather secluded resting place and a cozy living room. This tandem (bedroom-living room) is a good solution in the conditions of small city apartments and for families with children. Having located the bedroom in the far side of the room and visually separating it from the "unnecessary views", you can put the child to sleep and continue to do their work or watch TV in the living area. You do not have to gather a bed every morning just because "suddenly someone comes in." To create comfort, in addition to choosing the right way to zoning, it will be necessary to pay attention to the selection of optimal furniture and the interior of such a room, where you can fully relax and spend time with friends.
In modern design, the idea of installing end-to-end shelving is popular. The shelving in the interior fits harmoniously, if its color is matched in the tone of the decoration of the walls and the rest of the furnishings. It is better if it "stretches" to the ceiling, because in this case the delimiter divides the space completely, leaving no hope for the "merging" of the two rooms. In general, in such combined versions it is not recommended to use cabinets, pedestals and other "closed" pieces of furniture for storing things. Shelving can be installed not only between the zones, but also in the living room itself. They help to give the already limited room an ease and visually expand it. It is convenient to zonate the space, if it is a question of placing a rectangular shape. If the room is square, designers recommend not to split and, for example, to combine a bed with a sofa or put a sofa at the foot of the bed. In alternative versions, a portable screen is used which, if not needed, is easily assembled and placed in the far corner.

It is important to know! Such an original solution will save a lot of space, which is "vital" in standard one-room apartments in old Khrushchevs, for example. The apartments in them are of the same type and there can be no talk of a wide "scope". In private houses, living rooms are usually combined with a dining area, and bedrooms with boudoir houses.
Layout of furniture
Before repairing and decorating the room, a detailed design of a bedroom-living room of 18 square meters is being developed. m. Each square meter in a confined space should have its own functional purpose. Avoid the abundance of small parts and a large number of pieces of furniture. If the bed, then the bed-transformer; if the sofa, folding sofa; if the table is multifunctional. In the bedroom side, adhere to the golden rule of minimalism when choosing furniture: enough beds, padded stools or two armchairs and a compact bedside table.
In the guest area, too, only the basic elements of furniture are placed, which are vital for a full rest and convenient holding of guest "audiences". It is worthwhile to put a soft, cozy sofa, which, if necessary, will be decomposed and become another bed for those guests who have nowhere to go at night. A small, low table and a pair of armchairs will allow you to organize leisure or read away from the noisy "sofa" company. Open shelves will accommodate books, trinkets and functional trivia. Alternatively, sometimes niches are used in walls that project not only around the perimeter, but also on the partition between the zones. Of course there will be a question about the place for storing the wardrobe. If you still decide on the cabinet, it is better to use the corner. He does not throw himself so into the eyes, and visually "eats" a tiny space so imperceptibly that it will not spoil the microclimate in the room at all.
It is important to know! The popular Art Deco style can save even tiny rooms. In a small living room, instead of a sofa, it is enough to place a couch with a soft velor upholstery of blue color. The couch is decorated with a pair of cushions and a negligently thrown unicorn plaid. Several compact puffs of light colors with floral patterns will replace massive chairs. The white-colored end-to-end rack, made of wood, which rests on a gray wall with wallpaper of rough texture, will become a spacious place to store "all sorts of stuff." The picture ends with a couple of strokes in the form of neat luminaires on a shiny decorative wall tile.
Color design
For such a small room, which is assigned to two functions at once, it is better to use pastel colors. They can be combined with bright colors, but the emphasis should be on the light decoration of the walls. Typical apartments with low ceilings (brezhnevki, Khrushchev) will have to "overestimate" with the help of lighting and light shades of the top. Colors can be "woven" into the zoning of space. For example, the same, divided wall can be decorated in different colors to emphasize its different functional purpose. Designers like to "play" with such combinations:
- Lilac, gray;
- Blue, beige;
- Burgundy, coral;
- Mint, gray;
- Black, yellow;
- Orange, gray;
- Green, beige;
- Blue, nutty;
- Purple, yellow.
Any of these duets will look harmonious together with white and any shades of pastel tones.
Lighting
Try to avoid heavy, bulky chandeliers, which used to be so popular in the center of the room. Firstly, the "center" in the bedroom-living room is now two. Secondly, all efforts in the game with color will come to naught if a standard chandelier appears. This should be taken into account even if the premises are decorated in an elaborate Rococo or Empire style. It is better to use graceful sconces or luxurious lamps, giving up the "central" lighting. In modern styles, spot lighting is used throughout the perimeter of the room. Miniature light bulbs are placed on shelf shelves, as if highlighting their contents. Do not be afraid of "playing" with metal surfaces, imitation under metal and glass, if you want to make a room of eighteen square meters. even more spacious. In the living area, which is framed in one of the modern "cold" styles, it is allowed to use "cold" light. The bedroom is equipped with softer lighting.
It is important to know! Multistage lighting, where devices are placed on different levels, is also welcomed. But with this option, be more careful: unconsciously you can emphasize the shortcomings of the premises, hiding the dignity. If you do not know how to calculate the final result of such design in the future, then it's better to consult specialists.
Windows and doors
Most designers advise to install large windows in the floor. Such a French version will harmoniously resonate not only with the traditional Provence, but also with modern Scandinavian style, confused eclecticism or restrained art deco. Do not overload the beautiful view with heavy curtains. There will be enough light curtains that will close you from the eyes of curious passers-by, but do not prevent you from admiring the views. Window frames are better to choose a classic white color. When designing a room of 18 sq.m. bedroom-living room do not overlook such an important point, as the color solution of curtains. It should correspond with the general style, but a couple of tones is lighter than the colors that are chosen by the main ones. If there is no possibility to change the windows, then it is enough just to change the frames and get rid of the window sills. They lose their function, if in the room put a special stand for a couple of pots of flowers. Therefore, it is enough to leave the "bare" windows, which in their "nudity" are ideal for decorating a bedroom in the style of minimalism or hi-tech.

Using the loggia
The balcony or loggia that adjoin the bedroom-living room are used as extra space. They serve as a continuation of the bedroom or become another, the third functional area. On the balcony there are offices, cozy places for rest and tea drinking, mini dining rooms or blooming gardens at any time.
In what exactly this "addition" will turn into a few meters, will entirely depend only on the designer. Accommodation of a dining room and an office with an exit from a bedroom remains the decision "on the fan". Another thing is the garden, which will awake pleasant fragrances in the morning, or a place of rest with a good view. The latter is relevant for apartments on the upper floors and beautiful views of the park, forest or street.
Doors and window frames are removed if the balcony is well insulated. The partition under the window frame can be left and used as a rack, or removed completely, thereby expanding the passage. Properly installed lighting, a narrow sofa with a mountain of cushions, a pair of pouffes and a coffee table, surround with comfort and allow you to create a soft and warm corner for adult gatherings from the "Soviet-era storage".
Ideas for the dressing room
If the place in the house is not enough, and things are a "heap", then the classic cabinets can easily be replaced by a single mini-room. In the dressing room, any girl will place the entire "assortment" of her things: from a fur coat, to summer sarafans and shoes. In the children's bedrooms in the dressing room will fit only things, but toys.
The dressing room is considered a universal "storage room" for things of different kinds. It unloads space, but it is quite difficult to accommodate such an additional room in the bedroom. It is installed in the sleeping area, since relatively free space remains only there. Dressing rooms are placed against the wall opposite to the bed. The narrow wall of the dressing room is used as an additional "delimiter" for functional zones and decorated with niches with decorative souvenirs or "different" photos hanging on chains and ribbons. The level of the front wall of the dressing room should coincide with the level of the main element of space zoning.
