The BETILLON / DORVAL-BORY architectural bureau reconstructed a small studio apartment in Paris. The emphasis was on lighting. Specialists managed to turn modest private apartments with a total area of 20 square meters. meters in a surprisingly cozy and functional space for life.
The project cost was € 33,000. It included the development of interior design together with the improvement of ventilation and lighting conditions of the premises. The main task of architects was to create comfortable living conditions in a limited area. Light is the main theme of development. In connection with the lack of natural light, the system of introducing artificial was thoroughly studied. To do this, a decision was taken on a radical double approach when studying the spectral properties of both sources. Thus, special lamps were used in the interior, which, in addition to their direct function of lighting space, still function as heating devices, and their competent arrangement allows to regulate the level of light and the degree of heating. Therefore, at different times of the day, with closed and open shutters, the interior of a small room has a very special look.
In the design process a lot of attention was paid to competent zoning and the functional component. The only oblong room was visually divided into four parts: a kitchen-dining room, a living room, a bedroom and a shower room. Between the zones there are no walls, except for a small partition, which visually considerably expands the space. Another important point: the French are famous gourmets, so the owners of the apartment took most of this tiny dwelling under the kitchen. Since there is very little living space, a small partition was installed. Above, the sleeping area was organized thanks to a high ceiling, and on the space saved from the bottom realized the idea with a small shower. Steps leading upstairs to the bedroom, start directly from the countertops of kitchen furniture. A modest place was given for the wardrobe and storage system. And the bathroom was barely squeezed into the narrow walls.
When decorating the apartment architects preferred simplicity and white color, able to visually expand the area and make the apartment lighter. Modest apartments in impeccably minimalist style and with carefully selected accessories embody comfort and sophistication, being the result of the concerted work of the architectural firm BETILLON / DORVAL‐BORY, whose specialists have turned such a tiny living space into a cozy and maximally functional room.
The owners of the apartment will be happy to live here - a young creative couple. The lack of brightness and expressiveness, cute interior decor items and unique design elements is counterbalanced by the play of light, which was the main idea of this project. It's hard to believe, but if you still complain about the lack of square meters, look at your problem through the eyes of the heroes of this material.
