Samantha Keely Smith, an artist from New York, writes spectacular abstract landscapes that resemble swirling ocean vortexes. Using oil paint, enamel and shellac, Smith creates several translucent colored layers, alternating soft strokes and large, wide gestures to cause thunder of waves, raging tides and storm floods.
If you look at her pictures for a long time, you can feel the taste of salt water in your mouth and hear the noise of coastal waves somewhere nearby.
Smith's work is an expression of her emotional state, her inner world and experiences, although to many they seem only seascapes. In her interview to NeverLazy Magazine, she says: "My works are unreal places and not even imaginary places. All this is emotional and psychological places - internal landscapes. My works talk about things that are out of time, and I think that the ocean for most of us is something timeless. "
