A small kitchen is almost always a lot of furniture and little space. There is not something to cook - it's cramped! How to expand the area without resorting to construction work? How to revive your favorite corner of the house so that it brings joy? We will look for answers to these questions together.

Despite a complete renovation, the house in Jersey City, New Jersey, has retained its original eclectic character both inside and outside. The owners wanted more space in the kitchen. Their cousins ​​and part-time designers John Colaneri and Anthony Carrino brilliantly coped with the task.

All the furniture, plumbing and household appliances are located on one wall. Two usual, at first glance, chairs and a wooden table are not so simple as they seem. But we will save this secret for dessert.

In the design, it was possible to combine everything: turquoise vintage furniture, equipment in an eclectic style; modern accents were delicately arranged.

Kitchen as in the palm of your hand

Who lives here: married couple. Location: Jersey City, New Jersey. The size: 9 m2. Furniture: Decora, Turquoise Rust; gas stove width 76cm, refrigerator, extractor from Broan.Cost of the kitchen: about 58000 $. This amount includes dismantling, customization of windows, windows, new electrical wiring, plumbing, design project. 

Initially, the arrangement of furniture and household appliances was not sufficiently functional. The corner sink consumed a lot of space, so the designers moved it to the edge of the work surface. All plumbing and installation work on the conversion cost the owners $ 13000.

Carpenters reduced the doorway to free up some more space. Carrino and Colaneri were able to place the necessary furniture and equipment along one wall, which significantly expanded the space.

The original parquet floors were originally concealed under the linoleum with a chess pattern. The designers got rid of the latter and found out that the parquet is in excellent condition and does not require repair. So the kitchen has acquired one more highlight, which cost nothing to the owners.

Black stone table top gives the kitchen a classic look. The chandelier highlights the high ceilings, while the folding chairs from Ikea have become a kind of modern touch in the overall picture.

Carrino and Colaneri used every available centimeter of available space, so, for example, next to the refrigerator are two vertical stands for storing spices. Furniture made to order cost the owners $ 17500, but it was worth the money. Comfort, which bows from the kitchen set, will attract the residents of this house: every morning you will want to meet with a cup of aromatic coffee or herbal tea right here.

Household appliances harmoniously blended into the overall concept - a refrigerator, a stove, a modern hood with a steel surface perfectly combined with a metal apron and eclectic plumbing.

An important issue was lighting. In order to get more natural light, it was decided to install a small window instead of the old skirting board. And the old mirror was placed just behind the sink so that it could reflect the light. This solution allowed to brighten and visually expand the area of ​​the kitchen.

By the way, the surface of the mirror was carefully processed: a special film was formed, due to which the emerging spots and splashes will not be so noticeable.

An elegant antique faucet reminds us of a respectable age at home. In addition, he, along with a vintage mirror, a production lampshade and an old-fashioned suite creates an atmosphere of coziness and warmth. I do not want to leave this kitchen.

To the table and chairs the brothers approached with special care. The folding table made of walnut wood became, perhaps, the biggest achievement of the alteration - it freed up a lot of space.

The transformed kitchen played in a new way. The layout allowed to visually increase the space. Eclectic style did not let forget about the origin of this wonderful house.

Now the couple, arranging a party, can safely place the dance floor directly in the kitchen: for this you will only need to hang chairs on hooks located on the wall and fold the table.
