The process of roasting and making coffee is surrounded by an atmosphere of mystery and reverence, which, in my opinion, should not be. Perhaps the reason for this is that coffee does not grow in our latitudes, so that we can only observe the barley ritual when we queue up to buy our morning coffee.
However, it would not hurt to know that if you manage to get green coffee beans and if you can find a popcorn machine somewhere in the closet - you have everything in order to roast coffee at a quite professional level. Here's how to do it.
First, pour a small amount of coffee beans into the container of a popcorn machine. Do not pour too much, because otherwise the supply of hot air in the machine will not be powerful enough to fry properly every grain. Fill the container approximately 2.5 cm.
Click on the "Start" button. The contents of the container will begin to rotate, at first slowly, until the coffee beans lose some of the moisture that is contained in them. Carefully stir them for the first thirty seconds, until they begin to rotate in the tank themselves. Some of the beans will turn yellow, then turn brown. You will notice how they will start to crack with a characteristic sound.
As soon as the crack subsides, we can assume that the coffee beans are fried, and turn off the device. If you like a deeper degree of roasting, let the machine work a little longer. After another couple of minutes, the coffee beans will start to crackle again - and if you continue to fry them after that, most likely as a result you will get the embers.
Throw the seeds in a colander or strainer so that they cool as quickly as possible. Before comminuting the fried coffee beans prepare yourself for the most magical fragrance, which you have ever felt. Stupa and pestle will finish the work begun.
Pour the ground coffee into the French press and add the water, brought to a boil. Give the coffee as it should be brewed.
Or just brew coffee in your usual way - with the help of a purover, coffee maker, espresso machine, etc.
After a few minutes of brewing, pour the coffee into your favorite cup and enjoy a drink, proud of yourself. You just made an excellent cup of coffee.
